We know this isn't the most glamorous of blog topics, but nail fungus happens to the best of us. So we thought we'd give you some tips on how to get rid of the pesky foot problem and put your mind at ease.
Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, can be an embarrassing condition for someone to have, especially during the summery sandal months or during yoga class. Thankfully, there are home remedies to help with it.
Getting rid of that nail fungus can prove to be a nightmare! Here are some nail fungus home remedies that some people say have worked.
Apple Cider Vinegar Remedy for Nail Fungus
Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water together in a large bucket or bowl. Sit down, get comfortable, and dip your feet in. Soak your nails in the water/apple cider vinegar mixture for 30 minutes. Dry your nails and feet completely, as moisture is one of the main causes of nail fungus. For extra drying, use a blow dryer on your nails until completely dry.
Do this for a couple of weeks and you should see noticeable improvement.
Tea Tree Oil Remedy for Nail Fungus
The tea tree oil has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties that can help get rid of toenail fungus. To use on your toes, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with 1 teaspoon olive oil or coconut oil. Apply that tea tree oil solution to your nails with a cotton ball or something similar, and let it sit on there for 10 minutes. Then, using a small brush (like a clean tooth brush), gently scrub each nail.
Do this 2-3 times per day until you get the desired results.
Other Tips for Getting Rid of Nail Fungus
- Keep your feet dry: After showering or getting in any body of water, completely dry your feet, concentrating on your toes.
- Keep your socks clean: Moist socks (besides smelling icky) harbor fungus. So, make sure you change your socks after the gym or walking a considerable amount of time if your feet start to sweat.
- Air your feet out: Let your feet breath by going bare foot while at home whenever possible as this just let's fresh air get to your tootsies.
- No polish (at least for a while): You should avoid toe nail polish as it can decrease air supply to your nail making take longer to heal. (Even if you don't suffer from toe fungus, you really should let your nails breath every once in a while by leaving them polish free.)
