The Three Best Homemade Vegan Condiments Ever
Posted by Simple Girl on 5th Sep 2017
A vegan diet doesn't have to be dull, especially if you get creative with condiments. Since it can be tough to decipher the ingredients of most store-bought condiments, we like to make our own from scratch. Not only can we guarantee there are no animal products or by-products in our condiments, but we can also go easy on the sugar and forego the chemicals for a truly healthy and wholly satisfying complement to a salad, grilled tofu or tempeh, or a mess of Potatoes O'Brien.
Don’t have time to make your own? Try our vegan BBQ sauce and dressings! Just click on the “shop” or “categories” button! BUT, if you want the adventure or creating your own, here are some delicious, vegan condiments you can make yourself.
Fast Vegan Barbecue Sauce
This savory barbecue sauce is easy to make and tastes tangy on the tongue. This recipe makes 2½ cups of sauce.
In a big bowl, whisk together:
- 15 ounces of tomato sauce
- 3 tbsp of agave nectar
- 1 tbsp of molasses
- 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
- 3 tbsp of reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp dried basil
Let the sauce rest for an hour — or overnight in the fridge — to allow the flavors to meld.
Quick Vegan Ranch Dressing
Rich, creamy Ranch dressing isn't off-limits with this simple recipe.
In a blender or food processor, combine until smooth:
- 6 tbsp of vegan mayo
- juice from 2 small lemons
- ¼ tsp fresh-ground black pepper
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
If you like your dressing thinner, add more lemon juice or a bit off unsweetened soy milk.
Vegan Classic Hot Sauce
Spice up your favorite dishes with this easy-to-make hot sauce recipe.
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
- Remove the papery skin of a bulb of garlic, slice off the top, drizzle with ½ teaspoon of olive oil, and wrap loosely in foil.
- Place the garlic bulb, 3 large red bell peppers, and 7 habanero peppers on a cookie sheet with sides, and roast them in the oven for about 25 minutes, or until the garlic is tender.
- Remove the habaneros and garlic from the oven, but keep the red peppers in for another 20 minutes, turning a few times to ensure even cooking.
- Remove the seeds and stems from the habaneros and squeeze the garlic out of the bulb.
- Remove the red peppers from the oven, and put them in a sealed plastic bag for a few minutes to loosen the skin. Peel off the skin.
- In a blender or food processor, combine the garlic and peppers
with:
- 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 3 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp sumac
And there you have it. Three easy-peasy condiment recipes that'll make your taste buds dance.
