What Health Conscious Doctors Eat for Breakfast

Health conscious doctors are as concerned about their own health as well as that of their patients. The dietary habits of those doctors reveal a great deal about their personal concerns for good nutritional habits. But, what exactly do they drink and eat to stay healthy? Well, let’s look at some of their healthy breakfast recommendations.
Green Tea – Green tea offers many health benefits because it is chock-full of strong antioxidant polyphenols (catechins). Numerous studies show the ingredients in green tea contribute to reducing a person’s risks for colon, breast, gastric, lung, and prostate cancers.
Pomegranates – Loaded with anti-oxidants, essential amino acids and important minerals to support the immune system, this fruit is at the top of many superfood lists. Among its nutrients are zinc, copper, and other compounds that aid in lowering cholesterol and can protect skin from sunburn.
Blueberries – No berry has more potent, cancer-fighting antioxidants than blueberries, and most doctors know this. They also know a cup of blueberries a week also reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes by nearly 25%.
Eggs – Often given a bad rap for high cholesterol content, this food is really a "good egg" and very healthy. Eggs are one of the brain foods and aid in the production of the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine that boost mood, energy levels and alertness. Also rich in choline, a B vitamin, eggs support and contribute to proper cell function. Try purchasing free-range eggs that contain as much as six times the immune-boosting vitamin B as normal eggs. Free-range eggs also contain twice as much omega-3 fatty acids for both brain and heart health.
Kefir – Kefir is a fermented food product which provides high levels of healthy bacteria with low levels of lactose. This yogurt-like food is rich in protein and calcium, and helps to populate the gut with healthy bacteria that can aid in weight-loss. Be sure to choose kefir products without added sugars to gain the highest benefit.
Apples – There is truth in the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." This fantastic fruit is full of soluble fiber and helps to keep both your cholesterol levels where they belong. Doctors also appreciate the fact the powerful antioxidants and phytonutrients in apples help reduce inflammation. An apple eaten 15 minutes before a meal can reduce your caloric intake by up to 15 percent (WHOA, now that is a new tidbit I had never heard before. I’m investing in apples ASAP!) It's no wonder doctors include apples in a healthy breakfast. Purchase organic varieties to reduce possible exposure to pesticide residues.
